Kamuzu College of Nursing (KCN) a constituent college of the University Malawi with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is conducting a study on Advancing Post-Partum Hemorrhage Care (APPHC) in Dowa, Balaka, Lilongwe and Zomba Districts. To facilitate the implementation of the research project, the project is seeking to engage the services of the following

1. Quantity Data Collector(s)

Qualification and Experience

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Midwifery or Obstetrics medicine or related fields
    • Proven experience in conducting quantitative research interview in the past twelve (12) months
    • Experience in use of Android-based smartphones or tablets, Open Data Kit (ODK) or other electronic data collection software is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

    • Recruiting maternity care clients and providers according to study standard operating procedures
    • Facilitating completion of informed consent processes with study participants
    • Interviewing participants and submitting, accurate, complete, and high-quality data
    • Completing planned facility assessments
    • Complying with study guidelines and procedures
2. Qualitative Interviewer(s)/Team leader(s)

Qualification and Experience

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Midwifery or Obstetrics medicine or related
      fields
    • At least three (3) years practical experience as a midwife in a maternity unit
    • Proven experience in not less than two other studies, conducting in-depth interviews or focus group discussion in the past 12 months
    • Experience in conducting health facilities assessments
    • Experience in managing small administrative and financial transactions from the research
      activities.

Responsibilities

    • Recruiting maternity care clients and providers to participate in in-depth interviews and focus-group discussions per study standard operating procedures
    • Conducting high-quality, thorough qualitative interviews and submitting recordings to the study team
    • Supervising quantitative data collectors
    • Administering small financial transaction like reimbursements to study participants
    • Liaising with Research Coordinators on logistics of data collection activity plans.
3. Research Coordinator

Qualification and Experience

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Midwifery or Obstetrics medicine or Public Health or related fields
    • At least two years proven experience in a maternity care setting
    • Experience in managing multiple simultaneous teams responsible for conducting qualitative interviews and collecting quantitative data on at least 5 prior research studies
    • Demonstrated experience in supporting multiple field teams, including supervision, quality assurance, transport and logistics and expenditure tracking among others
    • Existing KCN staff or those with prior track record of working with KCN will be preferred however, deserving others are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

    • Planning and coordinating logistics for data collectors’ trainings and data collection activities
    • Managing all data collection activities in the district project sites
    • Monitoring data quality
    • Reviewing qualitative interviews for completeness and adequate probing
    • Providing constructive feedback and support to all data collectors, qualitative interviewers and team leaders
    • Providing financial accountability for field expenses
    • Supervising intervention rollout in Dowa and Balaka districts
    • Providing support to Intervention Coordinator in Zomba district.
4. Data Manager/Analyst

Qualification and Experience

    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science with a bias towards biostatistics or closely related fields
    • Must have experience in developing, revising and troubleshooting data collection forms using the ODK platform in at least 3 studies
    • Those with experience in Survey CTO will be preferred
    • Ability to produce descriptive statistics and bivariate comparisons of means and proportions using Stata 14
    • Proficient in writing calculations and logic statements in Excel

Responsibilities

    • Supporting the development of quantitative data collection instruments
    • Providing front-line technical support for any problem reported by data collectors
    • Reviewing all submissions to ensure completeness and accuracy
    • Conducting weekly review of complete dataset
    • Importing datasets into STATA
    • Conducting descriptive and bivariate analysis.

Please note that these jobs require extensive travels for longer periods away from duty station to conduct data collection activities.
