DEAN OF RESEARCH
Applicants are invited from suitably qualified and experienced academic staff to fill the
post of Dean of Research tenable at Kamuzu College of Nursing.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Dean of Research shall be responsible to the Principal for the following duties and
responsibilities:
a) Providing leadership to academics in research across faculties and supporting
mentorship in research for junior members of staff.
b) Promoting engagement in interdisciplinary research across faculties and
externally with other relevant stakeholders.
c) Facilitating the development, implementation, monitoring and review of research
policies, plans, strategies and programmes
d) Managing and updating research data
e) Marketing and mobilizing resources for research agenda
f) Organizing and facilitating research dissemination and outreach activities
g) Budgeting for research activities
h) Providing strategic guidance in identifying and communicating opportunities for
funding
i) Developing internal grant and pre-review mechanisms to ensure the strongest
possible proposals are submitted for review.

j) Assessing College research activities, processes and infrastructure and
implementing improvements
k) Coordinating strategic activities of Research Centers
Qualifications and Competencies
1. PhD degree
2. Thorough understanding and experience in carrying out research for at least
five years.
3. Demonstrate leadership and team building skills
4. Demonstrated high level of professionalism and maturity, and an ability to
work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks in a team comprising
professionals with varying demands.
5. Experience in interacting with senior government officials, local and
international donors.
Terms of Employment
The appointment is on contract basis for 4 years.
