Kamuzu College of Nursing (KCN) a constituent college of the University of Malawi in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) will be conducting a 5-year Group Antenatal Care research project in Malawi with funding from the National Institutes of Health, National Institute for Nursing Research. To facilitate the execution of the research, the project is seeking to engage the services of the following:

Position Project Administrator
Location Kamuzu College of Nursing, Blantyre campus. The incumbent will be required travel between project sites in the Southern Region of Malawi.
Type Fixed Term Contract: Normally two years renewable on mutual agreement subject to availability of funding and satisfactory performance
Job Purpose

Reporting to the Project Coordinator, the main purpose of the job is provide administrative and financial services to enable the project achieve its goals.

Key Responsibilities

The following are some of the key responsibilities of the post:

  1. Preparing project activity plans
  2. Executing general administrative duties that includes but not limited to: fleet and facilities management, procurement and provision of resources for project work
  3. Organising and facilitating training
  4. Supervising project staff reporting to him/her
  5. Creating and maintaining comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports
  6. Coordinating and/or writing high quality and timely project reports as specified in project terms and conditions
  7. Linking up and liaising with stakeholders on matters of interest to the project
  8. Providing support to Principal Investigators (PIs) in designing and executing ‘monitoring and evaluation’ plans for grants and the project in general to ensure that the Project and KCN meet the project’s technical and financial reporting schedules
  9. Reviewing existing Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), grants management procedures, budget and expenditure plans and contracts with funding agencies or service providers to ensure that they are consistent with KCN/UNIMA policies, project terms and funders’ specifications
  10. Providing financial and accounting services for the project
  11. Preparing project budget; monitoring and controlling project budget implementation
Education and Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • Bachelor of Business Administration from an accredited institution with at least two years’ work experience in accounting, general and project administration or Diploma in accounting with at least five years’ experience in accounting, general and project management
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a diversity of personalities
  • Computer literate
  • A self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision
