Kamuzu College of Nursing (KCN) a constituent college of the University of Malawi in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) will be conducting a 5-year Group Antenatal Care research project in Malawi with funding from the National Institutes of Health, National Institute for Nursing Research. To facilitate the execution of the research, the project is seeking to engage the services of the following:

Position Project Coordinator
Location Kamuzu College of Nursing, Blantyre campus. The incumbent will be required to travel between project sites in the Southern Region of Malawi.
Type Fixed Term Contract: Normally two years renewable on mutual agreement subject to availability of funding and satisfactory performance
Job Purpose

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the main purpose of the job is provide overall technical and administrative leadership of the project to achieve its goals.

Key Responsibilities

The following are some of the key responsibilities of the post:

  1. Providing overall day to day leadership of project implementation
  2. Coordinating implementation activities in liaison with Principal and Co-Investigators
  3. Collecting project data and information through qualitative interviews and field notes
  4. Monitoring and evaluating implementation aspects of the project
  5. Timely production of high quality reports
  6. Being a point of contact for the project and facilitating communication between the project
    investigators and the six project sites
  7. Supervising project staff
  8. Organising and facilitating project staff capacity building initiatives
  9. Linking up, liaising and networking with various stakeholders including health facilities’
    management on project related matters
Education and Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery or Nursing plus University Certificate in Midwifery or Bachelor of Science in Midwifery from an accredited institution
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Midwife
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Project Coordinator
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a diversity of personalities
  • Computer literate
  • A self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Experience in project management will be an added advantage.
