Kamuzu College of Nursing is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to pursue the following Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy programmes Faculty of Nursing
    • Master of Science in Adult Health Nursing

Admission Requirements

Minimum of 2 years relevant working experience after obtaining any of the following qualifications:

      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and Midwifery
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Adult Health Nursing
    • Master of Science in Child Health Nursing

Admission Requirements

Minimum of 2 years relevant working experience after obtaining any of the following qualifications

      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing plus University Certificate in Midwifery.
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and Midwifery
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Midwifery
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Child Health Nursing
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing

Admission Requirements

Applicants to be admitted into this programme must have a background in Nursing with the following

      • A Master of Science Degree in Nursing, Child Health Nursing or other health-related programmes (e.g. Master’s in Public Health).
      • A minimum of two-year work experience after Master’s Degree in a relevant field.
Faculty of Community Health Studies
    • Master of Science in Community Health Nursing

Admission Requirements

Minimum of 2 years relevant working experience after obtaining any of the following qualifications

      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Community Health Nursing
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing plus University Certificate in Midwifery
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and Midwifery
    • Master of Science in Mental Health

Option A: Master of Science in Mental Health (Public Mental Health Care) Admission Requirements Applicants to be admitted into Master of Science in Mental Health (Public Mental Health Care) programme should be registered to practice by a relevant professional body, and have any of the following qualifications including 2 years’ experience of practice in their field

      • Bachelor of Science in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing
      • Bachelor of Science in Clinical Psychiatry
      • Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Mental Health/Community Health/Adult Health/Child Health/Midwifery)
      • Bachelor of Arts Social Work
      • Bachelor of Science in Social Work/Psychology/Counselling

Option B: Master of Science in Mental Health (Mental Health Nursing) Admission Requirements Applicants to be admitted into Master of Science in Mental Health (Mental Health Nursing) programme should be registered to practice by a relevant professional body, and have any of the following qualifications including 2 years’ experience of practice in their field

      • Bachelor of Science in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing
      • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Mental Health/Community Health/Adult Health/Child Health)
      • Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery
Faculty of Applied Health Studies
    • Master of Science in Nursing & Midwifery Education

Admission Requirements Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience and be currently working in a nursing education institution or be willing to be deployed to a CHAM Nursing College after successful completion of the programme plus any of the following qualifications:

      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing Education
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing plus University Certificate in Midwifery
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and Midwifery
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Inter-Professional Health Care Leadership Admission Requirements Applicants to be admitted into this programme must have the following
      • A Master of Science Degree in Nursing and or Midwifery or other health-related programme (e.g. Masters in Clinical Medicine, Masters in Public Health).
      • A minimum of two-year work experience after Master’s Degree in a relevant field.
Faculty of Midwifery, Neonatal and Reproductive Health Studies
    • Master of Science in Midwifery Admission Requirements Minimum of 2 years relevant working experience after obtaining any of the following qualifications
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing plus University Certificate in Midwifery
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and Midwifery
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Midwifery
    • Master of Science in Reproductive Health Admission Requirements Minimum of 2 years relevant working experience after obtaining any of the following qualifications
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing plus University Certificate in Midwifery
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and Midwifery
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Midwifery
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Clinical Medicine

Applicants with distinctions, credits and strong passes in their first degrees will have an added advantage.

Additional Requirements for all the Master of Science programmes

      • Application form (PG1a form)
      • Academic transcripts
      • Copies of certified academic certificates
      • Copies of current professional registration certificates (from Nurses & Midwives council or Medical Council)
      • Detailed Curriculum Vitae
      • Reference letters (two academic and one professional)
      • A non-refundable application fee of MK12, 000.00 for Malawians and US $70.00 for non – Malawians
      • Proof of scholarship i.e. support letter from the sponsor.
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Midwifery Admission Requirements Applicants to be admitted into this programme must have a background in Midwifery with the following:
      • A Master of Science Degree in Midwifery, Child Health Nursing or other health-related programmes (e.g. Master’s in Public Health).
      • A minimum of two-year work experience after Master’s Degree in a relevant field.

Additional Requirements for all the Doctor of Philosophy programmes

      • The following items should be submitted with the application forms (PG 1 a forms)
      • Curriculum vitae
      • Official transcripts of graduate and postgraduate degrees
      • References from one academic and two traceable professional referees attesting to the applicant’s academic and professional ability and potential
      • Personal goal statement that is congruent with the programme goals.
      • Description of research interest area that is congruent with the Malawi Health Research agenda.
      • A sample of scholarly work-preferably published work.

These documents must be duly certified as true copies of the originals by a recognized  Commissioner of Oaths.

Applicants, are also required to include the following items in their application

      • Original proof of availability of funds for training i.e. official sponsorship letter or bank statements of the applicant.
      • Copy of a bank deposit slip showing the name of the applicant and the amount of application fee paid.
      • Official reference letter(s) from the current and/or previous employer(s) showing proof of at least 2 years’ relevant work experience.

All applicants for PhD are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of Mk14, 000.00 for all Malawian applicants and $100.00 for all International applicants. The application fees must be deposited to KCN Main Account Number 321068, National Bank, Lilongwe Branch.

Any application form that will not include the above-mentioned documents will not be processed!

  • All programmes are non-residential but special arrangements can be made for international students upon requests.
